Microsoft Curious New Device?

Microsoft has been improving their game of introducing new technological devices. The new and upcoming “Courier” looks promising - at least looking at the use case presented in the video.

The Courier looks like it would fill a gap. Phones are just a little bit too small to get any real useful work done and the laptops are just a little bit too clumsy to carry around with you at all times.

The touch interface is a nice user-friendly way to interact with a device (although I’m still waiting for voice control to kick off).

In the opening speech at the “You are in Control” conference in Reykjavik we got to listen to one of my favorite thinkers. Paul Bennett is the creative director of the highly innovative IDEO company.

His opening with a weird Youtube music video of a pre-punk pre-disco French band, set the stage. He would not give us “STRATEGIC SHIT”!

Three main points:

Relinquish control - gives you control
Doing good - begets doing good (trust and morality)
Pie is the new Slice (work to increase the size of the whole instead of trying to get a piece of the pie)

The innovation cabinet

Hugmyndaráðuneytið which can be translated as The innovation cabinet is an exiting new initiative by Guðjón Már Guðjónsson, CEO of Industria.

Open think tank

Hugmyndaráðuneytið which is essentially an open think tank, was kicked off with an exiting meeting at the Torvaldsen Restaurant and Bar in Reykjavik last Saturday ( January 10.).
A group of 50 highly motivated nerds, artists and entrepreneurs discussed how to motivate innovation and initiatives getting Iceland on the right track again.

Ideas to discuss

A multitude of ideas where tossed around for the Innovation cabinet to investigate and discuss further in upcoming meetings. Ideas like:

Open innovation
Communal responsibility of companies and startups
How to present business ideas to Investors
Where to find Investors in the current economy
Success and failure stories
Startup bootstrapping - startup without investors
